An Augusta appraisal firm has been hired by Thomson-McDuffie County officials to access property sites in downtown Thomson where a proposed city/county government center is planned.
Marshal Van, Inc. was selected to complete the appraisal work during a joint meeting last Thursday by members of Thomson City Council and members of the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners. The meeting was held at city hall.
Officials from both governing bodies approved the firm doing the work at a cost of $30,000.
City/county officials also approved of hiring O'Brien and Gere to complete an infrastructure study in the area of where the government center is proposed. The cost of that study is $16,680.
On the issue of a financial consultant, the Rev. Frederick Favors, who serves as city/county government center committee chairman, said he'd like more time to study those being considered. Rev. Favors also is a county commissioner.
Earlier, Thomson City Administrator Don Powers had recommended Morgan-Keegan of Atlanta doing the work, since they have done work before for the City of Thomson.
