The 21st Century out-of-school program operated by McDuffie County Schools is now known as McDuffie Educational and Enrichment Programs for Students (MEEPS). In addition, the after-school program has been expanded to serve 8th and 9th grade students at Thomson-McDuffie Junior High School.
The afterschool program at the junior high school will operate much the same as the after-school programs located in all of the school system elementary schools and at the middle school; however, it will also offer project-based learning and leadership projects for students.
Although the MEEPS after-school sites at the elementary schools are currently full, there are openings for students at the middle school serving sixth and seventh graders and at Thomson-McDuffie Junior High School serving eighth and ninth graders.
All of the MEEPS sites offer a first-rate after-school program as well as a summer enrichment program with homework help, tutoring, snacks, technology, recreation, tap dance lessons, violin lessons and field trips. The program involves the entire family by offering workshops for parents featuring a variety of topics including parenting issues, health and wellness, discipline matters and careers.
Technology is a very important component of the program for both students and parents. Parent workshops in basic computing are also offered in addition to equipment being available for checkout.
The MEEPS program is funded through various grants and parent fees. Tuition is based on the financial status of the family.
Luci Linnenkohl serves as Project Director for MEEPS. She can be reached at 706-986-4471.
