Rev. Gerald Thomas McCalister

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Rev. Gerald Thomas McCalister, 79, formerly of Thomson, and Panama City, Fla., passed away September 23, 2008 in Nashville, Tenn.

Gerald was a minister at the Thomson Church of Christ in Thomson for six years from 1985 until 1991. His passion included his faith, family, friends and working as a chaplain in the McDuffie County jail.

Gerald was a retired minister and elder of Churches of Christ in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. He helped establish and rekindle eight congregations of the Church of Christ in three states.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Vaughan McCalister of Antioch, Tenn.; daughter, Linda McCalister Smith and husband Wayland James Smith of Brentwood, Tenn.; two grandsons, Matthew Wilson of Lewisburg, Tenn.; Cannon Wilson of Lewisburg, Tenn.; two great-grandsons, McCalister Wilson and McCager Wilson of Lewisburg, Tenn.; brothers, Raymond McCalister, Sr., Santa Paula, Cal.; Donald McCalister, New Market, Alabama. Gerald is preceded in death by his son, Gerald Thomas McCalister, Jr., and granddaughter, Lara Vaughan Wilson.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home with burial in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Panama City, Fla. A memorial service was planned in Gerald's honor Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Woodson Chapel Church of Christ on Edmondson Pike in Nashville, Tenn.
