Angels want to fill soldiers' stockings for Christmas

Time is running out for the Annual Christmas Stocking Drive held by the Georgia Division of the Soldiers Angels as they prepare to collect and stuff stockings to be sent to the men and women who are deployed with the 48th Brigade from Fort Stewart.

The volunteers from Soldiers Angels have been busy making and collecting Christmas stockings. Unfortunately, with the occurrence of Katrina and Rita, response has been extremely slow and the deadline of Oct. 21 as the final date to receive all donations to guarantee delivery by Christmas is drawing near.

Items still needed are:

- Individual packets of hot chocolate, cider or hot soup mix

- Candy (bite sized, individually wrapped, all kinds)

- AT&T Phone Cards (we ask for this brand because it works in the Iraq/Kuwait area)

- Hand held games (playing cards, battery games with batteries, please)

- Small puzzle books

Since time is of the essence, any donation will be greatly appreciated and monies will be spent on purchasing AT&T phone cards to give servicemen and women the opportunity to call home and speak to loved ones at Christmas.

Additionally, the group is in desperate need of small, signed Christmas cards simply addressed to "Soldier" or "Hero." Homemade cards are welcome. This is the perfect project for a church, school, club, business and family or for any group to get involved and to participate.

Any donations can be placed in a collection box at the Thomson-McDuffie County Chamber of Commerce, 111 Railroad Street, Thomson, GA 30824.
