New Hope to offer Left Behind screening

For those who were left behind when the movies came out, there's a chance to catch up. Left Behind I and II will be shown this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church.

Allen Holbrook, pastor of New Hope, said the movies are "being shown as a refresher" before the third sequel will premier at the church the following week.

Left Behind: The Movie was released in theaters in 2001. The sequel, Left Behind II: Tribulation Force, was released on video and DVD in 2002.

The third sequel, Left Behind: World At War, will open only in churches, and will be shown at New Hope Baptist Church at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, and Sunday, Oct. 23.

The movies are based on the best-selling series of Christian novels by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye.

All three movies are rated PG-13 for violence. The cast includes Kirk Cameron, Louis Gosset Jr., Gordon Currie, Arnold Pinnock, Janaya Stephens, Brad Johnson, and Jessica Steen.

Movie reviews on the Left Behind website include Dr. Tony Evans, author, radio speaker, and pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, who said the movies are "a contemporary approach to understanding the key concepts of the Tribulation..." and Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, who said the movies are "Christian film-making at its best."

Admission to the movies are free. New Hope is located at 1424 Cobbham Road NE in Thomson.
