Rakesha LaShawnda Shank and Steven Leonard Jones were united in marriage at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007, at Springfield Baptist Church in Thomson. Rev. F.D.Favors officiated.
Rakesha is the daughter of Joe L. Shank of Silver Springs, Md., and George and Mary Redwood of Thomson. She is the granddaughter of Lucuis and Myra Collins of Thomson. She gradated from Thomson High School in 1991, and from Savannah State University with a bachelor's degree in management. She also received a masters of education in instructional technology in 2004 from AIU. She is employed as a senior project manager with AT&T in Atlanta.
Steven is the son of Louis Jones and Horace and Beatrice Mitchell of Savannah. He is the grandson of Mrs. Rosa Lee Jones of Savannah. He is a 1990 graduate of Johnson High School in Savannah. He is a 1995 graduate of Savannah State University where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He is employed as mechanical engineer at AirLiquide America in Kennesaw.
Given in marriage by her father, Rakesha chose her sister, Maria Hamilton, to serve as maid of honor and her friend Cynthia Wiley McRae as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Tonya Carson, Socknee Cummings, Cheryl Gaines, Elsie Hopkins, Dacia Jackson, Michelle Jones, Shelia Jones, Tara Reese, Cassandra Smith and Tameka Wilkins, all friends and relatives of the bride. Junior Bridesmaids were Charae Gaines and Devousha Washington. Flower girl was Janiya Burnett.
Steven chose his friends, Andre Trowel and Chris Turner, to serve as best men. Groomsmen were Daniel Barnes, Ricky Brigham, Laregas Burnett, Rodney Gaines, Todd Hopkins, Alden Jackson, DuShawn Jones, Tyrone, Eric Manning, Edward Rouse, Vincent Smalls and Jesse Stephens, all relatives and friends. Ring bearer was Zayounta Washington. Bell ringer was Everett Manning, Jr. Broom carrier was Nayef Jones. Ushers were Wabenie Burnett, Jonathan Cowins and Jalen Jackson. Hostesses were Shadreyl Golden, Shawntae Golden, Jaylah Jackson and Jacqueline Jones.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Thomson High School. The newlyweds honeymooned in the Bahamas and will reside in Dallas, Ga.
