I would like to take this time to extend many thanks to all involved in the Thomson-McDuffie Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort sent to Pass Christian, Miss.
First, I would like to thank Thomson Mayor Bob Knox and McDuffie County Commission Chairman Charlie Newton for endorsing such measures. I also would like to thank Bob Flanders and the entire staff at City Hall for all of their efforts. Also, Mr. Greg Harden and Mrs. Lisa Kitchens at WTHO/WTWA for allotted air time and public service announcements. Also, the staff at The McDuffie Mirror for some very special space in their well-rounded, informative publication. The entire management team and employees of Bi-Lo efforts should not go unmentioned as well.
Last but not least I would like to thank all of the residents of Thomson-McDuffie County (and surrounding communities) for all of their donations, no matter how much or how little, it was greatly appreciated.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, my second trip to Pass Christian, I met with Police Chief John Dubuisson, as well as local law enforcement, fire and city officials and they told me that loss of dwellings in Pass Christian was estimated at 95 percent. There are literally thousands that have nothing at all.
I would encourage you to continue to help support local schools, churches, civic organizations, as well as individual efforts in the relief effort. These people will need help for a long time to come.
In closing I would like to ask everyone as the holiday season approaches (only 70 shopping days left until Christmas ladies) to please be thankful for what you have, no matter how much or how little. My next venture will be a toy drive that will be delivered to the children of Pass Christian on December 22 or 23 with a Santa Claus and everything. Read future issues of The McDuffie Mirror for details. Again, Thank you all!!!
Yours in McDuffie County,
