Showdown with Lincoln County next for Warren

A year ago, Lincoln County's Red Devils earned a win by two touchdowns over Warren County.

The 21-7 win for Head Coach Larry Campbell's Red Devils was just another step toward a state championship in Class A.

Friday night, the two teams will meet again, this time at Buddy Buford Field in Lincolnton. And this time, the winning team stays atop Region 7-A. Currently, both teams have perfect 4-0 region marks.

The Warren County Screaming Devils of Head Coach Lee Hutto come into the game against Lincoln County having beaten Monticello 42-7. The Red Devils, meanwhile, barely escaped being upset by Wilkinson County in a 35-32 game last week.

"It's our most important game, because it's our next game," said Coach Hutto. "We, as coaches, have to have our kids ready to play."

The Screaming Devils will be battling history: Warren County has never beat Lincoln County in football.

"I think it's going to be one of those games that will be won at the line of scrimmage," Coach Hutto said. "Whoever controls the line of scrimmage the best and makes the least amount of turnovers will likely come out the winner."

He admitted that a victory over Lincoln County, the defending Class A State Champions, "would be big, because it would probably put us in a situation where we could possibly win the region championship."
