Mr. Lewis Everett Newsome

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Lewis Everett Newsome, 66, beloved husband of Julia Newsome, died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2006, at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Garvin and Dr. C. Richard Dendler officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Melvin Ansley, Dave Hunter, Lewis Hoats, Sam Prince, Branson Marsh, Aubrey Montgomery, Jimmy Steptoe, and Sammy Luckey. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the C. D. Cason Sunday School class of Sweetwater Baptist Church.

Mr. Newsome was a native of Glascock County, but had lived most of his life in Thomson. He was a 1961 graduate of Thomson High School. He worked for Thomson Company for 40 years, and retired after several years of service as a salesman from Salant Corporation. He was a faithful, devoted member of Sweetwater Baptist Church since 1969. He was a deacon and member of the C. D. Cason Sunday School Class. Mr. Newsome was a huge fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Thomson Bulldogs.

Mr. Newsome was preceded in death by his father, J. B. Newsome and is survived by his wife, Julia Ann Ward Newsome of Thomson; two daughters and sons-in-law; Kathy and Mark Hughes of Thomson, and Melissa and Jason O'Kane of Savannah; mother, Edna Land Newsome of Thomson; three grandchildren, Robert Michael Hughes, Kasie Leigh Hughes, and Kimberlyn Brooke Hughes, all of Thomson.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Sweetwater Baptist Church Renovation Fund 1606 Wrens Hwy. Thomson, GA 30824.
