APPLING, Ga. - Mr. Richard E. "Dick" Dawkins, 79, entered into rest Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the residence.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Demascus Baptist Church with Rev. Sonny Jones and Rev. Joe Hester officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Dawkins was born in Dallas, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II, having serving in the U.S. Navy. Upon being discharged from the Navy he then joined the Army. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a loving father and husband. He was said to be a friend to all. Mr. Dawkins was a member and a Deacon of Damascus Baptist Church. He was the founder and co-owner of Sheet Metal Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, Theda Dawkins; one son, Richard E. Dawkins Jr. of Thomson; three daughters, Pat McElraft of Emerald Isle, NC, Vicki Jones and Debbie Robertson, both of Appling; one brother, James M. "Bud" Dawkins of Martinez, and one sister, Edwinna Gottlieb of McAlester, OK; eight grandchildren, Trevor McElraft, Stacia O'Connor, Christy D. Williams, Tracie M. Huhnke, Brent Jones, Jennifer Kerr, Nathan Robertson, and Courtney Robertson, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family members. Honorary pallbearers were the Men's Sunday School class of Damascus Baptist Church.
