Thomson, GA - Ms. Nancy Powell Drane entered into rest on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at the home of her daughter.
Ms. Drane worked for McDuffie County as the Director of Leisure Services until retiring in 2000. Since retiring, she has continued her work with the elderly by opening a consulting agency and teaching other counties how to develop programs for the aging. Ms. Drane was a native of McDuffie County, the daughter of the late James and Ruby Powell.
Survivors are her daughters, Laura and Wendy Drane, both of Thomson; her granddaughter Summer Lee Doolittle of Thomson, her brothers Jerry and Jimmy Powell, both of Thomson, three nieces, Libby Powell Hutcheson of Grovetown, Crystal Powell of Augusta, and Melissa Powell of Thomson, and one nephew, Jim Powell of Augusta.
Due to Ms. Drane donating her remains to science for continued research, a funeral will not be held at this time. However, a memorial service will be held on October 30, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center located at 304 Greenway Street in Thomson. The family asks that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Ms. Drane.
