A group of McDuffie County students with a love of music will present a range of selections at a county wide choral festival on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Thomson High School Auditorium.

"There will be selections from Broadway, some Shakespearean songs, and some sacred numbers," said Choral Director Janet Bailey.
Participating groups include students from Dearing Elementary School, Thomson Middle School and four groups from Thomson High School: the Ninth Grade Ensemble, the Women's Chorus, the Intermediate Chorus and the Thomson Singers (advanced chorus).
The groups will all join together for the final number, "You Raise Me Up," a contemporary song by Brendan Graham and Rolf Lovland.
It is appropriate to conclude the choral festival with "You Raise Me Up" because the song has become an unofficial theme song of sorts for McDuffie County schools since it reflects a commitment to inspire and encourage, Ms. Bailey said.
The choral event is free and open to the public.
