LOUISVILLE, Ga.- Thomson Middle School fell just short of the Super 10 Middle School Championship last week at Louisville Middle School.
The Bulldogs lost the championship to Lousville 20-16, and finished the season with only one loss. Louisville was the only team to score on Thomson Middle during the season.
The Eagles struck first on a 60-yard touchdown run by Antwon "BoBo" McGruder on their first possession of the game.
Thomson Middle responded with a touchdown and two-point conversion of their own, knotting the score at 8-8.
On the kickoff, the Bulldogs recovered the onside kick and added another touchdown three plays later.
The Eagles added another score before halftime and Thomson Middle went into the locker room up by two, 16-14.
But the Dogs were shutout in the second half.
"At halftime, we discussed a lot of things," said Louisville Coach Robbie Blocker. "Mainly, I pointed out that the team playing the best defense in the second half would win the game."
The second half was marked by two costly fumbles -- including one with only 1:30 left in the game.
Thomson Middle also gave up an Eagle 23-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-two play.
