RAYLE, Ga. - Mrs. Joy Phillips Boatwright, 61, of Rayle, died October 24, 2006.
She was the daughter of Mildred Inez Story and the late Williams Mundy Phillips. She lived in Wilkes County all but the first 18 years of her life, which she lived in McDuffie County. A homemaker and devoted mother, Joy worked tirelessly for the Civitan Club and Special Olympics and was the founder of Extra Special People in Athens.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Sardis Baptist Church with Dr. John Mark Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Alex Boatwright; son, Alexander Boatwright III of Rayle and his fiance, Jennifer; daughter, Mildred Amy Boatwright, Rayle; mother, Mildred Inez Phillips, Appling; sister, Gloria Phillips Colet and husband, Larry B., Hephzibah and Sherene Phillips Nicholson and husband, Gerald W., Saluda, S.C.; brothers, William E. (Billy) Phillips, Thomson, and Tommy Phillips and wife, Sue, Thomson; mother-in-law, Wilda S. Boatwright, Rayle; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
