The last few days of November and the first of December will begin the holiday season in McDuffie County with the Chamber of Commerce's annual Festival Off Main. Events range from a tree lighting ceremony, a breakfast with Santa, the festival and a parade.
And for those who are still not in the mood to go home and deck the halls after all the festivities, the Chamber has added a new event - a tour of homes.
"Having it with the festival gets the Christmas season started off with a bang," said Diane Wood, the chairwoman of the Tour of Homes committee. "And because it is so early, it will give people some good ideas, and get them in the spirit. A lot of people think maybe they won't decorate this year until they've been on the tour. It gets them enthused to decorate."
The McDuffie Tour of Homes will begin at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 at Abigail's On Main. Mrs. Wood said there are seven homes on the tour, and private transportation will be provided.
"Everyone will be chauffeured," she said. "This way, since it is at night and the homes are out in the county, no one will have problems finding a home."
Tickets to the event are $25 and can be purchased anytime from the Chamber of Commerce in the Depot, Abigail's On Main (Street) or Peacock Hill Gifts on Washington Road.
Tourists are to begin gathering on the porch at Abigail's on Main at 5 p.m., where Mrs. Wood said refreshments and entertainment will be provided. Ed Grisham will be singing songs from his new CD.
"It's going to be just the most enjoyable evening of all. Anybody that misses it is going to be missing a treat that day," Mrs. Wood said.
