Cassie Pickrell named queen at Briarwood

After attending Briarwood Academy since she was three years old, it seemed fitting that the Buccaneers chose Cassie Pickrell to be their homecoming queen last Friday night. And it was even more fitting that she was able to share the special moment with her father who has cancer.

"It was special to share that with him," Cassie said. "To have him out there on the field was special to me."

The daughter of Bob and Lisa Pickrell of Warrenton, Cassie has been a key member of Briarwood athletics as a cheerleader, basketball player, softball player, baton twirler and on the track team.

She has won numerous awards in each field, as well as being named to the 2006 All Area Independent Schools First Team by The Augusta Chronicle.

Cassie is also a member of the National Honor Society and served as a junior usher.

The other members of the Briarwood Academy Homecoming Court for 2007 included: Whitney McTier, Samantha Jenkins, Tabatha Raburn, Jessica House, Caitlin Rodgers, Blaire Moyer, Whitney Carani, Jennifer Morey, Macey Smith, Abby McAvoy, Cady Gilmer, Brooke Wiley, Joy Dudley Brooke Barnes, Brittany Ray, crown bearer Cole Mosley and flower girl Jaci Langford.

"It was an honor because there were so many who deserved it," Cassie said. "It was a great honor to be picked."
