New stadium opens this week

It's the dawn of a new era and the close of an old one at Warren County High School.

And it all centers around a football field - one old and the other new.

First, it's remembering a field that has served as the playing ground for decades of football games - Legion Field.

Special ceremonies will get underway tonight (Thursday) at 6 p.m. for a "farewell ceremony" to the old field, according to Warren County High School Prinicipal Ja'net Bishop. The ceremony is expected to last about an hour.

"We would like to see former football players, cheerleaders, band members, coaches and supporters of the football program over the years join us in a special remembrance of Legion Field," Mrs. Bishop said.

The public also is invited to attend a special ceremony at the new Warren County High Football Stadium on Friday night, prior to the game between the Screaming Devils and Wilkinson County. Open house at the new stadium will include a walk-through before the start of the game, Mrs. Bishop said.

Friday night also marks Senior Appreciation Night for the Screaming Devils.

"Friday night is going to be a very special night for our kids, our football program and our community," Warren County Head Coach Lee Hutto said. "This is something our kids and community have been looking forward to the entire season. I'm very happy for them, our school system and this community."
