Dance team makes plans for Disney

Ten Thomson girls are going to help Disney celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The girls, representing The Dance Studio, were selected to lead the parade at the anniversary celebration at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Cindy Wilson, director of The Dance Studio, sent an audition tape to Disney when she found out they were looking for dancers. The tape won her an invitation to bring a group to participate in the parade as part of 150 dancers from around the United States.

I think it's a once in a lifetime experience. I mean, how many kids get to say they danced with Mickey?" said Lisa Cody, who's daughter, Gena, is on the dance team. When Gena saw it advertised on TV, she said hey, that'll be us, Mama!'"

Mrs. Wilson held an audition last summer to select those who would participate on the dance team. The audition was open to anyone, not just those in Ms. Wilson's studio. The girls will dance throughout the evening parade, which will begin at 10 p.m. and last for approximately 30 minutes. They will be performing a jazz version of All I Want For Christmas."

Ms. Cody said the group has been practicing at 10 p.m. outside on Fridays, so they can get used to dancing under the same conditions of their performance in Florida. They will participate in a group practice with all the other dancers at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex the morning before the parade.

I like it because I get to meet new friends and go to other places and dance with other people," Gena, 7, said.

Members of the Dance The Magic Dance Team" are: Katie Bean and Lauren Lowe of Warrenton, Madison Carpenter of Martinez, Holly Hickman of Cumming, and Megan Bodine, Gena Cody, Molly Dwyer, Ciara Meadows, Abby Sandifer, Brittany Wells, and Kate Wells all of Thomson.

The Dance Studio will hold a fundraiser to help with their trip. A Chik-Fil-A dinner of a sandwich, chips, slaw, dessert, and tea is $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for children. The dinner will be at First United Methodist Church from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16. Tickets may be purchased from any of the dance team members, at the Wilson Company, or Kent's restaurant.
