Mr. John Alva Bridges, Jr.

THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. John Alva Bridges, Jr., 63, beloved husband of Catherine Bridges of Bivins, Texas, formerly of Thomson, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jim Ramsey officiating.

A native of Washington, Mr. Bridges moved to Thomson at an early age and graduated from Thomson High School and the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. He was the Bureau Chief for Bowie County Life of the Texarkana Gazette. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waycross and the Masonic Lodge No. 305 in Waycross.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Bridges, Bivins, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Alva and Kamela Bridges, III, Austin, Texas, and George Stubbs and Eunice Bridges, Alexandria, VA; two grandsons, Jacob Andrew Bridges and Joseph Henry Bridges, both of Austin, Texas; and one brother, James M. Bridges, Thomson.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
