THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Shelton Evans, 67, beloved husband of Mrs. Betty Evans died Saturday, November 5, 2005 in the University Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, November 7, in the Thomson Second Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Drawdy officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Evans was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Thomson for most of his life. He was a 1956 graduate of Thomson High School. He served in the National Guard and retired from civil service from Fort Gordon. He was a past Deacon and Music Director at the Washington Heights Baptist Church. He was a member of Thomson Second Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Agnes Brooks Sunday School Class. He sang for over 35 years with the Pathfinders, Deliverance and Pee Wee Devore. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Evans, Thomson; his sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sandra Evans, Thomson; his sister and brother-in-law, Martha Jean and Lewis Pepper, Lexington, Miss.; two granddaughters, Jessica and Elizabeth Newman, both of Thomson and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Richard Winters, Johnny Pentecost, Jack Sims, Kim Beard, David Hobbs and Paul Hobbs. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Sanford, Benny Goins, Bill Luken, Roger Reynolds, Mell Jones and Woody Johnson.
