Ban is about changing quality of lives for the better

Dear Editor,

It has come to my attention that one of our local physicians, Dr. Frank Powell, has submitted a proposal to ban smoking in public places in McDuffie County. I applaud his efforts in proposing such a ban. Smoking has taken a terrible toll on our healthcare systems, with more and more smoking-related health complications causing increased numbers of patients to further overcrowd emergency departments and physician's offices. In many areas, hospital budgets are straining to provide resources to care for patients with smoking-related illnesses. In addition, there is the personal toll that years of smoking have taken on our families and loved ones.

I hope that a smoking ban proposal for McDuffie County will be successful. The quality of the lives of many people will be changed for the better because of it.

Cindy Prosnak, RN
