A Dearing teen is looking for volunteers to join him in helping out his town.
Josh Rodgers addressed the Dearing Town Council Monday evening, telling them how he will transform the old tennis courts next to the Dearing gymnasium for his Eagle Scout project.
"This is a great relief for the town not to have to do it ourselves," Mayor Sean Kelley said. "It's going to be a pile of work. On behalf of the town, Josh, we sure do appreciate it."
Josh said the project will include cutting down trees and grinding the stumps, hauling off trash, cutting up the cement and pressure washing it, patching the fence around the well, taking down the rusted fence, putting out picnic tables and making the area more visible to discourage vandalism on the gym.
Josh, who is a junior at Thomson High School, said other members of Troop 310, will help him with the project.
He invited the town council members to come help, and anyone else who is able.
"We can use all the help we can get," Josh said.
Josh said he has all the equipment he needs except for a stump grinder.
The clean up project will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, and lunch will be provided for all volunteers.
