A Thomson man was killed after being struck by a car on Old Washington Road last Friday night.
McDuffie County Coroner Rhusha Mack identified the man as Ardrian Mariana Brown, 30, of Dell Drive in Thomson. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 7:50 p.m.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Willie Ramsey said Valencia Hunt, 23, of Edgar Circle in Thomson, was driving south on Old Washington Road in a 2006 Toyota Corolla CE when her vehicle struck the man, who darted out in the roadway as he was walking south. No charges were filed in the accident.
Trooper Ramsey said the vehicle skidded 87.3 feet before coming to rest in front of Huff's Radiator and Auto Repair shop on the heavily traveled thoroughfare that cuts through a residential area. The accident occurred on a portion of the road that does not have street lights.
Another adult and three juveniles were passengers in the car with Ms. Hunt, but no one in the car was injured according to Trooper Ramsey.
McDuffie County Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Hobbs said Mr. Brown was a suspect in a break-in at a home, which was reported about 30 minutes before the accident.
A woman in the 700 block of Old Washington Road called 911 at 7:10 p.m. and said a "strange man" was in her home eating food, Sgt. Hobbs said.
Neighbors identified the man as Mr. Brown and said he was last seen walking along Old Washington Road.
McDuffie County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Hoffman - who answered the initial burglary call - rode up on the scene of the accident at 7:42 p.m., Sgt. Hobbs said.
Mr. Brown was wanted by police on parole and probation warrants.
The funeral for Mr. Brown was held Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Frederick Favors officiating. Internment was in the Westview Cemetery.
