Thomson man arrested on child sex charges

A 72-year-old Thomson man has been released under $5,000 bail following his arrest last Friday on outstanding warrants filed against him on child sex charges by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Special Agent Gary Nicholson, agent in-charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 7 office in Thomson, identified the suspect as John Raymond Roquemore, of the 3200 block of Mt. Pleasant Road. Mr. Roquemore was charged with one count of sexual battery and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes, Agent Nicholson said.

The suspect was taken into custody at his residence, shortly before 3 p.m. last Friday, by Deputies Barry Whitfield and Henry Campbell of the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's Maj. Ronnie Williamson said Mr. Roquemore since has been released from the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center in Thomson.

Agent Nicholson said GBI Case Agent Teddy Jackson had probed the case since Feb. 16.

The female victim in the case is said to be under the age of 16.
