Partnership discusses airport at meeting

Members of the Clarks Hill Partnership got a sneak peek at the future of the Thomson-McDuffie County Regional Airport Monday afternoon.

Engineer Phil Eberly, with airport consultant W.K. Dixon, outlined a series of projects including a 300-ft. runway extension, runway resurfacing and construction of hangars for corporate and private use. The total cost of the planned projects is more than $2.5 million, and officials hope most of the money will come from state and federal coffers.

Officials are especially excited about the prospect of adding more hangar space at the airport, especially since such space is rarely available, Mr. Eberly said.

"We've got people knocking us over waiting to come in," said Thomson Mayor Bob Knox, who serves as chairman of the five-county partnership.
