Dear Editor,
It seems that no one told me and a lot of other folks that the pedestrian-right-of-way law was revoked. A call to the Thomson Police Department informed some of us that for it to be in effect a person must be "in" the crosswalk for it to apply. Ouch!
I hear also that the parking on Main Street will be eliminated. To what avail? So more semi tractor/trailers can zoom their way through town way past the 25 mile-an-hour speed limit (not to mention our own friends and neighbors that ignore the same)? Oh well, the truckers stop more often for pedestrians than the 70 percent of the other drivers do. What about my elderly and disabled salon clients who really need to be able to get out at the curb and not play "Dodge-Car or Truck"trying to cross the street from Knox Center parking lot? We have had to personally get out and make people stop so people can cross.
I shudder to think about the movie theatre patrons that play chicken at night. And, as far as eliminating parking on the street: How about making it for handicapped people only? Just a thought. Thanks for letting me rant!
