Police investigate attempted armed robbery at Thomson store

A man brandishing a handgun walked into the Dollar General Store on Washington Road in Thomson Monday night and attempted a robbery.

The masked bandit got away, according to Investigator Lt. Scott Whittle, who said efforts to locate a suspect failed. A man was detained and questioned near the scene of the robbery, but was released without any charges being filed.

Lt. Whittle came to the store and processed the crime scene, dusting for fingerprints, etc.

Sgt. Jared Land, along with Officers Jamie Henning and Adam Dye, responded to the call. Police also requested that firefighters with the Thomson Fire Department bring the ladder truck over to the store. Police thought the robber may have tossed the gun used in the crime onto the rooftop of the store, according to Sgt. Land. A weapon was never found, however.

The robber was described as a black male, standing between 5-6 and 5-10 with a stocky build, Lt. Whittle said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Thomson Police at (706)-595-2166.
