Monique Martin, a senior guard for Brewton-Parker College's women's basketball team, has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 20.
During the week, Martin, from Thomson, averaged 28 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals for the No. 23 Lady Barons (5-0, 2-0 SSAC) which included wins over Columbia College (88-46) and Auburn University-Montgomery (57-44).
Martin was "shocked" by the honor and hopes to serve her team well in the future.
"I was shocked, but I was excited too," Martin said. "We work really hard as a team, and I think we're playing really good too."
BPC Head Coach Sheila Simmons is proud of Martin's hard work and her recent recognition.
"She's well-deserving of the Player of the Week. She had two really strong games, averaging 32 points per game and double-doubles. It's a tremendous honor for each girl who receives the award, which leads to (the naming of) the player of the year award," Simmons said.
