The Thomson High School Christmas Baseball Camp is set to begin later this month. The camp for kids ages 8 to 14 will run from Monday, Dec. 19 until Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the THS baseball field.
A staff of experienced coaches will give instruction on the fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding and hitting. The cost is $50 per person, and all the proceeds will benefit the Thomson High School baseball team.
The camp staff includes the Thomson baseball skipper, eight-time high school state champion baseball coach Terry Holder who has been coaching over 30 years.
Another Coach Holder will be helping with the camp. Michael Holder, Terry's son, won two state titles at Evans High School. He played baseball at Georgia Southern and is now the assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at USC-Aiken.
Four-year THS JV Coach Aaron Hall will also be on hand. He played baseball for THS and Augusta State. He is now an assistant varsity coach at THS.
Former Hephzibah High School varsity baseball coach Jason Osborn is on staff for the camp. He is in his first year as an assistant varsity coach at THS.
THS graduate and baseball player Craig Chapman is assisting with the camp. He is also a former Brewton Parker College baseball player.
Those interested in their children attending the camp should contact Coach Terry Holder at 595-3523 ext. 4450 or 359-4647. Registration forms can be returned to Thomson Middle School, C/O Coach Terry Holder, 511 Main Street in Thomson.
The camp staff asks that campers meet in the dugout at the THS baseball field each morning wearing proper baseball attire. Each camper should bring his own glove, bat and shoes.
In case of rain, campers should bring tennis shoes because camp will be moved to the Thomson Middle School gym for indoor instruction. The coaches also ask that parents pick up their children by 12:15 each day of camp.
