BLYTHE, Ga. - Mrs. Leona W. Ready, 96, beloved wife for 58 years to the late L. P. Ready, went home to be with Our Lord after sustaining injuries from a fall at home while preparing her annual holiday baking.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Jerry Owens officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Ready was a native of Allendale County, S.C., and a member of Hopeful Baptist Church and a former member of Rosemont Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She had been an insurance agent with Carolina Life and operated family grocery stores around the area. Ms. Leona was loved by every person that came into her life. Her vision wasn't strong but her spirit was always full of strength. She was a master baker, avid quilter after turning 60, and loved to do handwork. Her specialties were chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, ginger snaps and at Christmas she always made great pecan pies. She loved to walk outside, water the flowers and just spend time outside. All her friends and family were blessed to have such a great lady as a part of their lives.
Mrs. Ready was preceded in death by an infant son, Rudolph Ready, four brothers, Sam, Tom, Luther and J.B. Williams and two sisters, Sarah W. Ready and Bertha Williams, all of South Carolina.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gwen Ready Florence-Caraway and Arthur Caraway, her son and daughter-in-law, Spencer L. Ready, Sr., and June Ready all of Blythe, her six grandchildren, Bryan C. Florence and his wife Pam of Thomson, Glenn Florence of Blyth, Laurie F. Beard and her husband Kenneth of Oklahoma City, Okla., Melissa F. James and her husband Barry of Evans, S. Lee Ready, Jr., and his wife Leasa and Jennifer Ready Jackson and her husband Chuck all of Hephzibah, and fifteen great-grandchildren, her sister Ruth W. Dyches of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Active Pallbearers were her grandson and great-grandsons, Bryan C. Florence, Lee Ready, Barry James, Chuck Jackson, Bryan Daniel Florence, Mitchell Florence, Leland Ready, Shands James, Campbell Ready, Barrett James, Ryan James, Payne Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rosemont Baptist Church Vision Fund, 710 Stone Ave., Waynesboro, Ga. 30830. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Linda Holmes.
