LINCOLNTON, Ga. - TSGT Edward R. Benson, U.S. Air Force Ret., 70, husband of Margaret Walls Benson of Hinton St. died Sunday at his residence.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 5 at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God, Lincolnton with Revs. Lanis Lewis and Terry Bonds officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson with full military honors.
Mr. Benson, a native of Hazlehurst, was retired from the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, he had lived in Savannah where he later retired from Gulfstream Aerospace. He has been a resident of Lincoln County for the past twelve years. Also an ordained Deacon and founding member of Raysville Baptist Church, Mr. Benson most recently united with the First Assembly of God in Lincolnton.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Walls Benson; son, Ralph Benson, Savannah; daughter, Edwana B. Cowart, Boiling Springs, S.C.; brothers, Lee Benson, Ellabelle, Ga., O.C. Benson, Savannah; sisters, Lavonia Howell, Vernell Burgess, Maudine Ricks, Joyce Williams, all of the Savannah area; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
