Mr. Martin E. "Gene" Vinson
Ret. CSX Railroad

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Martin E. "Gene" Vinson, beloved husband of Judy Pittman Vinson of Martinez, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at Doctor's Hospital.

Mr. Vinson was a native of Lincoln County and had lived in Columbia County for the past 20 years. He was the son of the late Harry N. Vinson and Anna Lou Chastain Vinson. Mr. Vinson retired from CSX Railroad after working 20 years as a trainman. He then worked for Winn Dixie on Fury's Ferry Road and retired after 20 years of service there. Mr. Vinson served his country in the U.S. Army and attended Jones Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Greg E. Vinson, Sr. of Williamston, S.C., Jamie Lee Hinton and his wife Tiffany of Greenville, S.C., and Joshua M. Hinton and his wife Shannon also of Greenville, S.C.; daughters, Tina Cray of Augusta and Angie Vaughan and her husband Bill of Thomson; 10 grandchildren; sister, Ruth Kortrey and her husband Bill of Washington; brothers, Terry Alvin Vinson and his wife Elaine of Belton, S.C., and Jerry A. Vinson and his wife Khriss of Martinez.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 2, 2006, noon at Jones Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Crosswhite officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Ken Davis, Mel Cray, Lee Fernandez, Jr., Victor Yannuzzi, Pete Raybon, Rick Pittman, and Craige Pittman. Interment followed at Greenwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County.

Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
