Sweetwater Gym off to strong start

Thomson McDuffie Recreation Advisory Board Chairman Mike McQuaig said he is hearing a lot of great response to the new Sweetwater gymnasium. Dr. McQuaig told board members last Wednesday the gym is going to receive even more exposure as the basketball season cranks up.

Recreation Director Bob Howard said 414 participants had used the facility during the opening months of September and October with $2,257 being received.

Mr. Howard said the majority of that admission revenue comes from rental fees paid by the Thomson Competitive Cheerleaders group.

A three-on-three basketball tournament is planned for Dec. 16 at the gym. Mr. Howard said the entry fee is $50 per team with a roster limit of five players. He said more details were available on the tournament by calling the recreation office at 706-595-2152.
