Anything Goes at Thomson High School.
The annual musical put on by Valerie Flamini-Caldwell, Kelly Flanders and the Bulldog Players, along with other cast members is coming soon.
The curtain will open Thursday, Jan. 22, and the play will run through Saturday, Jan. 24.
Mrs. Flamini-Caldwell and Mrs. Flanders said they chose Anything Goes because the musical features dancing and comedy.
Plus, Mrs. Flamini-Caldwell said she "thought it would be fun."
Mrs. Flanders said, "It's always fun, and I get to work with great, dedicated kids. It's always a joy for a director, and I am looking forward to it."
The musical is centered around Reno Sweeny, Billy Crocker, Hope Harcourt and Rev. Dr. Moon (Moonface), and Public Enemy #13 and is set on a luxury cruise liner.
Moonface is hiding from the police along with Reno. Billy is in love with Hope, but Hope is to be married to Sir Evelyn. Soon, Hope returns to Billy and Sir Evelyn finds Reno. Moonface is finally let go by the police because he is harmless.
For the next couple of months, the cast of Anything Goes will be spending quite a bit of time at school. Cast members will have practice almost every day. Some will end as late as 8:30 or 9 p.m.
The rehearsals are split up for different cast members at one time. Then there are "all calls," which bring the whole cast together.
During class period 4A, they will also practice and prepare for that day's rehearsal. When there aren't cast rehearsals, there are crew work days -- reserved for the people who will be building the set for the musical.
Anything Goes has a much larger cast from previous productions with 27 cast members all together, including the "extras."
The cast for this year is as follows: Reno Sweeny: Katie Jones; Moonface Martin: Jeremy Timmerman; Billy Crocker: Zach Ansley; Hope Harcourt: Mindy Wadley; Mrs. Harcourt: Sonya Freeman-Moss; Bonnie: Hillary Murphy; Sir Evelyn: Stanvoski Kitchens; Reno's Angels - Purity: Teresa Noble; Chastity: Kristan Birch; Charity: Amy Weimar; Heaven: Rachel Creel; and Virtue: Amber Poss; Reporter: Marissa Gulleketson; Cameraman and Sailor: Stephen Jump; Chinese Ling: Edward Leung; Chinese Ching: Carl Jenkins; Captain: Sara Crawford; Steward: Margaret Dowda; Whitney: Rafeal Britt; Bishop: Marie Joyner; Purser: Gabriel Hand; Sailor: Cameron Hampton; Girl 1: Crystal Knight; Girl 2: Kaycee Collins; Girl 3: Courtney Hampton; dancers: Amanda Garcia, Marci Aycock, and Ashley Stamey.
Mrs. Flamini-Caldwell deals a lot with the singing portion of the musical and a small amount with the choreography.
Cindy Wilson handles much of the dancing and choreography.
Mrs. Flanders is the drama coach, so she will be in charge of most of the actual acting, which includes the blocking of the spoken scenes. She also handles the building area of the musical.
Beth Powers will serve as the pianist for the production.
