Reverend Franklin Bourland Thomas, Jr.
Episcopal Priest

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Reverend Franklin Bourland Thomas, Jr., 82, beloved husband of Doris Thomas, went to be with God, Monday, December 11, 2006, at University Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, with The Very Reverend Neal Phelps officiating. Interment followed at Westview Cemetery.

Frank was the son of Frank B. Thomas, Sr. and Ruth Connell Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, J. Gordon Thomas, Perry Lee Thomas and George Warren Thomas. He lived all of his life in Richmond County. He attended Richmond Academy and Augusta College. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict as a Navy radio operator on board a Subchaser. He worked for Civil Service as Chief Instructor at South Eastern Signal School at Fort Gordon. Following his retirement, he fulfilled a lifelong dream completing four years of theological study and became an Episcopal Priest. At the time of his death, he was the Priest at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Thomson.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons, Frank B. Thomas, III and wife Deb, Edward Warren Thomas and wife Julie; one daughter, Suzanne Renee Bass and husband David; grandchildren, Brandon Thomas and wife Amy, Baylan Thomas and wife Amie Rae, Jamie Bass, Kathleen Cantey and husband Michael, Jennifer Bass and Andrew Thomas; great-grandchildren, Carter Thomas, Brady Thomas, Gracie Cantey, Bryce Cantey and Clay Thomas; sisters, Norma Baxter and husband John, Mary Ann Ergle and husband Hilton, Nilla Rooks and husband Lloyd, and Pet Key and husband Wade.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Brandon Thomas, Baylan Thomas, Jamie Bass, Michael Cantey, Andrew Thomas and nephew, Leonard Kesel.

Platt's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
