Mr. John T. "Tom" Smith
Retired Businessman

WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. John T. "Tom" Smith, 85, of Warrenton, entered into rest Monday December 11, 2006, at the VA Hospital in Augusta. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Nellie T. Smith.

Funeral services were held Wednesday December 13, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Norwood Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Riley officiating. Burial followed at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Smith was born July 2, 1921 in Glascock County Ga., the son of the late David S. Smith and Eva McCoy Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers James Smith and Allen Smith and a sister Alice Smith. Mr. Smith served in the CCC Camp and US Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion, a member and a deacon of Norwood Baptist Church and had retired as a business man from the Plainview Welding Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie T. Smith of Warrenton; children, Susan (Tommy) Harwell, Kay (Gary) Johnson, Brenda (Donnie) Roland all of Warrenton and Judy Beckworth of Dearin; his brother, Cecil Smith, Warrenton; his sisters, Barbara Cornelison and Ruby Linde, both of Warrenton, Helen Braun, Lilburn, and Fay Marshall, Athens; grandchildren, Tom Harwell, Rusty Harwell, Lacey Johnson, Lindsey Sisson, Lee Ann Gurley, Jennifer Small, Alton Roland, Beth Usry and Jodie Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Rebecca Harwell, J. R. Harwell, Brooks Harwell, Caleb Roland, Mary Bennett Sisson, Carson Gurley, Nick Newsome, Hunter Reid, Luke Ashley, Kristin Small, Jenni Lyn Small, Justin Gurley and Hannah Gurley.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Harden, Roy Johnson, Tommy Harwell, Grady Moore, Paul Lowe, Carlton Griffith, Bob Warren and Billy Tucker.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
