Thomson High School's first December graduation will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the high school theater. The ceremony is for students who completed state graduation requirements between May and December, and who have not participated previously in a ceremony.
Thirty-one students are eligible to march and receive their diplomas. According to Lynn Cato, assistant principal of Thomson High, as of Tuesday, Dec. 13, 17 students confirmed they would march.
Mrs. Cato said the theater will be decorated in black and gold. Guest speaker will be Joseph Greene, Thomson resident, author and professor of Business Administration at Augusta State University.
Mrs. Cato said the theme of the ceremony is a quote of Jimmy Dean: "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination."
"That speaks volumes, because these students continued to persevere to reach the goal of graduation," Mrs. Cato said. "They have stuck it out. It takes a lot of motivation, and I think everyone here is proud of them."
A reception for the graduates and their immediate families will follow the graduation ceremony. Lifetouch Photography will be taking photographs.
