AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Hugh Burrel "Mac" McRae, husband of the late Mrs. Ruby Collins McRae, entered into rest Saturday December 10, 2005 at Veterans Adminstration Medical Center Downtown Division.
Funeral services were held 11 am Tuesday December 13, 2005, at Curtis Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Lowery officiating. Interment was held 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at Collins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Lyons, Ga., with military honors.
Mr. McRae was a native of Lyons, Ga., and had made the Augusta area his home for the past 58 years. He was a retired barber at Richmond Barber Shop with 50 years of service. Mr. McRae was a member of Curtis Baptist Church where he was the teacher of the Senior Mens Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Luther Rice Seminary in Florida and a former lay minister with Dearing Baptist Church. Mr. McRae was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He received six honor medals including the Bronze Star and the Victory Medal.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean McRae Porter, Greer, SC; one sister, Emma Jo Pittman, Lyons, Ga.; two grandsons, Bradford Sloan Porter and Jonathan James Porter.
