Debate team starts season with success

Thomson High teacher Ben Davis and his Debate Team, led by senior co-captains Evan Luke and Caleb Kitchens, are off to a tremendous start.

They have won more than 10 trophies for placing in events and receiving high speaker points. If all goes well, the debate team will be attending the State Debate Competition at Starr's Mill High School in Peachtree City Feb. 4-5.

The team consists of Seniors Evan Luke, Caleb Kitchens, Zach Ansley and Stephanie Gibson; Junior Brandon Smith; Sophomores Courtney Morey, Johnathan Weichedal and Katie Reeves; and Freshmen Christen Brown and Brianna Pryzby.

Freshman Christen Brown has been dominating in tournaments at the novice level. She has been walking away with first place speaker and overall placement awards.

"I am very proud that I have the chance to lead such an awesome team," said Mr. Davis. "Every member has grown in their speaking skills. I am also excited that we have a team that has a chance to make it to the state level. This has never happened before at THS."
