Zaxby's plans progress
Final details are being arranged for Zaxby's to come to McDuffie County.
Planning Board Director Fred Guerrant said that the outlook is good for the chicken restaurant to build a new facility near I-20 in early 2004.
"Zaxby's is in good shape," he said. "The site development plan has been approved. The utilities with the city's utility department have been approved. We're waiting on the health site approval by Tim Moseley at the health department," he said.
Mr. Guerrant also said that contractors have already begun bidding on the contract, which means that construction of the restaurant won't be too far behind.
"I think Zaxby's is ready to go fairly soon," he said. "I would say after the first of the year they'd be ready to go."
Tax bills mailed
The McDuffie County Tax Commissioner's office sent out 2003 property tax bills last week, allowing local taxpayers the option of citing the payment as a deduction on their 2003 tax bill. The bills are due Feb. 11, 2004.
The McDuffie County Tax Assessors' office had wanted to get the tax digest finalized much earlier, but delays pushed the mailing dates of the bills until just recently. The preliminary version of the budget was released a little more than a month ago, which allowed county officials to set the millage rate and get the budget straightened out.
