HARLEM, Ga. - Retired 1st Sgt. Fred A. Hammett, 80, husband of Mrs. Eva Hammett, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2007, at Harlem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Vest officiating. Interment was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson, with full military honors accorded.
Mr. Hammett was born in Warren County to the late Charlie and Mary Raybun Hammett and had been a Harlem resident since 1974. He was retired from the United States Army and having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Hammett was also retired from the maintenance department at Johnson's Control. He was a member of Harlem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eva Jones Hammett; his son and daughter-in-law Donald K. and Sharon Hammett, Martinez; one brother Harold Hammett, Dearing; one sister Maggie Wilkerson, Grovetown; and one granddaughter, Tiffany.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ray Hammett.
