New Year's Eve Party to be held in Brooks' memory
The Thomson Country Club is sponsoring a New Year's Eve Party to benefit the Todd Brooks Memorial Foundation. The evening will feature musical entertainment by Southbound. Chris Powers, the lead guitarist for Southbound, said the party will be on Saturday rather than Sunday, so alcohol can be served.
"We're going to crank up at 9:30 p.m.," Mr. Powers said.
In addition to the concert, party goers will enjoy dancing, party favors, champagne and hors'doeuvres. Only 200 tickets will be sold, and are available "as of right now," according to Mr. Powers.
Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple. All proceeds will go to the Todd Brooks Memorial Foundation. The Thomson Country Club is located at 972 Wire Road SE in Thomson. For more information, call 706-595-2727.
School system turns down electric bids
The McDuffie County Board of Education has sent both utility companies bidding on electrical service for the new school back to sharpen their pencils.
At the recommendation of engineering consultants, bids from Georgia Power and Jefferson Energy to serve the new $17 million middle school on Whiteoak Road were rejected by board members at their regular December meeting.
McKnight Construction Company from Augusta will be building the school, and due to the electrical load it will require to operate, the two utility companies get to bid rather than rely on territorial boundaries to make the decision on who will get the business.
Both companies now have until noon Jan. 4 to resubmit proposals, and the board will vote Jan. 11 at their regular monthly meeting on which bid to accept.
