Local leaders want to know what residents like about McDuffie

The executive director of the McDuffie County Convention and Visitors Bureau is curious. Just how do McDuffie Countians spend their free time? "I'd love to have some input from my fellow McDuffie residents to help me put together some itineraries for visitors," Elizabeth Vance said. "What I'm looking for is what people in McDuffie County do that they love."

What she isn't looking for is a list of events. Mrs. Vance said her job is to know -- even create -- the events. She needs a list of ideas for visitors who stop in the area on an average day. Mrs. Vance plans to leave these ideas at hotels so that visitors can leave with a pleasant memory and want to come back.

She has already received a few ideas in response to an emailed request -- Sunday lunch at Ivery's Restaurant, the blueberry scones at Cornerstone Deli, antiquing, wake boarding at the lake, photographing the Rock House during all the different seasons and searching for the oldest grave at the Wrightsboro Cemetery.

But she'd like more. If an idea is event-related, Mrs. Vance requests that it be specific. For example, one of the ideas sent to her was sampling all the different entries at the Miss Aileen's Burger Battle during the Dearing Mayfest.

"I'm looking for specific things to be able to tell people when they're here and there's not an event going on, here's a list of things you can go and do," she said.
