LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Ms. Mary Margaret Dunford, 64, entered into rest on Friday, December 5, 2008, at Wacama Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at Resthaven Cemetery, with Rev. Dan Rosser officiating.
Mary Margaret Dunford, born February 4, 1944, was the daughter of the late James Shelby and Dorothy Mae Stripling Dunford. Ms. Dunford received her undergraduate degree in education from Troy State University in Troy, Ala. She also received higher degrees from the University of Georgia and Harvard University. Ms. Dunford was an elementary educator for 31 years and retired as principal at J.A. Maxwell Elementary School in Thomson. After retirement, she made a home in Otto, N.C., and enjoyed many years surrounded by the vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ms. Dunford resided in Lincolnton and was a member of Lincolnton Baptist Church.
Ms. Dunford is survived by her sisters, Dottie Dunford Arnette and husband, Robert of Kingstree, S.C., Jamie Dunford Reese and husband, Jack of Lincolnton, and Betsy Dunford Barnett and husband, Jimmy of Washington; nieces and nephews, Rob Arnette, Jim Arnette, Marianne Arnette, Jamie Barnett, Brad Barnett, Maegen Barnett, Brandie Reese and Shelbye Reese; great nieces and nephews, Rhys Pritchard, James Arnette, Catherine Arnette and Cassidy Barnett.
