Mr. Ralph R. Abbott
Retired U.S. Postal Service

WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. Ralph R. Abbott, 81, beloved husband of Mrs. Susie Smith Abbott, died Thursday, December 18, 2008, at Heartland Hospice.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church of Warrenton with Rev. Jeanette Purvis officiating. Burial followed in the Johnson Cemetery.

Mr. Abbott, a native and lifelong resident of Warren County was the son of the late Vince and Lena Johnson Abbott. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service with more than 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Mr. Abbott was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warrenton where he served as the Financial Secretary for 12 years, head usher and a member of the Sarah Clary Sunday School Class for 60 years. He was instrumental in the funding of Briarwood Academy where he had served on the Board of Trustees.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Susie Smith Abbott, three daughters, Laurie L. Abbott, Warrenton, Rosemary A. (Chip) Harris, North Augusta, S.C., and Audrey A. (Jay) Harrison, Thomson; two grandchildren, Erin Harris and Will Harris; one brother, Ronald C. Abbott, Warrenton, and a special cousin, Lynwood Johnson, Warrenton.

Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Abbott and Julian "Monk" Abbott.

Pallbearers were Charles Abbott, Dennis Neal, Dennis Johnson, John Graham, Dan Smith, Lavern McCullough, W. F. Norris and Eugene Norris.

The family expresses appreciation to care-giver Bea White, nurse June Beggs, Dr. David Squires, Dr. Joe Wills and Heartland Hospice.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
