Mr. William Sim Newman, Jr.
USMC veteran

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. William Sim Newman, Jr., 79, husband of Margie Brown Newman, reported for final duty assignment with his Lord on Monday, December 15, 2008, at the VA Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Norris Chapel Holiness Church with the Rev. Jimmy Richardson officiating. Burial was at 4 p.m. in the Plum Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, in Plum Branch, S.C., with military honors.

Mr. Newman was born in McDuffie County and was a Marine Corps Sergeant and a veteran of Korea and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Norris Chapel Holiness Church, the Disabled American Veterans, and the CSRA Road Angels.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Debra Williams (Jimmy), Thomson; two sons, William Newman (Kim), Salisbury, North Carolina and Billy Joe Newman (Glenda), Harlem; four grandchildren, Seretha Michelle Leggett, Jimmy E. Williams, Jr., Michael Newman and Patricia Lynn Calamas; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Hearn, Martinez, and Margie Brannon, Harlem; He was preceded in death by two children, Patricia Ann Newman and Seretha Louis Newman.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the Georgia War Veterans Home, 1101 15th St. Augusta, GA 30901.

Pallbearers were Freddie Brannon, Bobby Wallace, Clevy Wallace, Calvin Leggett, Leon Higdon, William Hearn, Gene Brown and Tommy Edmunds. Honorary pallbearer was Henry Ray Hearn.
