THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. John David "Jack" Baston, Jr., 79, beloved husband of Mrs. Martha Baston, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at Doctors Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, in the Westview Cemetery with Dr. Tom Kerr and Rev. Chad Norris officiating.
Jack was a retired banker, a native and lifelong resident of Thomson. He was a member of Thomson First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Directors and was treasurer of the church. He sang in the choir, and in recent years led the singing in the JOY Sunday school class. He was a second lieutenant in the McDuffie County National Guard. As a respected community leader, Jack served on the McDuffie County Board of Education, was a director of the Thomson Chamber of Commerce where he served as President in 1981. He was a member of the Kiwanis club and served as President and worked with Easter Seals and the Boy Scouts. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Georgia, a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He graduated the school of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University in 1969.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Baston, Thomson; a son, John David Baston III, Gainesville, Ga.; a grandson, John David Baston IV, and a granddaughter, Caroline Baston.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Pool Club of Thomson and members of the JOY Sunday school class.
