The Thomson McDuffie County Library will be closed next week for improvements, according to librarian Suzan Harris. The library will be closed to the public Monday, Jan. 19, so new carpet can be installed. It will reopen Monday, Jan. 26.
The carpet presently in place is original to the building, which was completed in 1988, according to Ms. Harris. The new carpet is partially funded by a private grant, with the City of Thomson and McDuffie County Commissioners funding the balance.
"An attractive, comfortable and safe library environment encourages use by local citizens and presents a positive sense of community pride to those who visit McDuffie County," Ms. Harris said in a press release.
Librarians have adjusted due dates so that no one will have a book due during the time the library is closed, Ms. Harris said. If anyone wants to return anything, they can use the Book Return box on the side of the building.
The library also had a video security system installed in early December, funded by a grant from the Knox Foundation. After the carpet installation, the next project will be to replace the air conditioning units, which also are original to the building.
"We are working to find the funding for that," Ms. Harris said.
