AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Janie R. Martin entered into rest Saturday, January 3, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services were held Friday, January 9, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Thankful Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Tanksley officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.
Mrs. Martin was a native of Jackson, Tenn., a retired teacher's assistant, a member of Thankful Baptist Church - where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, a Devotional Leader and Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Coordinator for the Seniors Ministry, President of the Pastor's Aide Club and a member of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry, a member of the R.A. Dent Elks Temple 1349 I.B.P.O.E. of W., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Eastview Ladies Club, Para-Professional Organization, Past Vice-President of the Senior Citizens Luncheon, Eastview Center, Eastview Neighborhood Association, and Eastview Bible Study Group.
Survivors are three daughters, Sharron D. Martin, Barbara Renee (Tony) Martin Tyler, Augusta, Gloria Anita (Calvin) Martin Ivery, Thomson; two sisters, Nancy Rowland, Dayton, Ohio, Ella Carroll, Jackson, Tenn.; four brothers, Ozell Northern, Robert (Flora) Northern, Harvey Gray, Dayton, Ohio, Bennie (Patricia) Northern, Jackson, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Mario Jovan Martin, Augusta, Christopher (Jamie) Martell Tyler, Atlanta, CiAndrea Jena Ivery, Shaquille Tyler, Kwasi Hickson, Augusta; three great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Makia, Justus; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
