Jasmine Ruff: What President Obama Means to Me

Barack Obama made history November 4, 2008, when he was elected the first African-American president. I was so happy when they announced him as the President-Elect. President Obama has proven that you can become whatever you want and it does not matter what color you are.

I think that Martin Luther King, Jr., paved the way for Barack Obama. Now President Obama will pave the way for us. I think that he will bring many good changes to the United States, but it just can't happen over night.

Barack Obama displayed lots of courage in running for president. He dealt with lots of criticism, but through it all, he never gave up. Instead, he set an example for all Americans to follow and walked with his head held high.

I would like to thank President Obama for having the courage to run, for setting the example for the rest of us, and for making history.
